This would be funny if it wasn’t so unbelievably shocking. Currently, you or I - with no fire safety qualifications - could legally sign off building works as safe. Absolutely absurd.https://twitter.com/davidlammy/status/997070516887408641 …

I simply cannot believe how, one year on from the Grenfell Tower fire, the Hackitt review doesn't recommend that combustible materials are banned and that desktop studies - where materials are approved WITHOUT A FIRE TEST INVOLVING AN ACTUAL FIRE are banned. A betrayal. https://twitter.com/PeteApps/status/997035952903254016 …

No you couldn't. It has to be a Local Authority BCO or an Approved Inspector.

Presumably they would be certifying that materials approved by regulation (Gov't) were correctly deployed. And those Gov't Regulations would in turn have been consulted on with industry experts.

Strictly, Building Regs don't approve materials. They set performance standards, which are proved by appropriate technical certification, BBA, or similar, usually awarded after testing.

Whatever it costs get the cladding off every building now, but all Labour wants to do is play class politics, when everyone knows it was the cladding that was to blame.

Like the Windrush betrayal, this is another national disgrace of ours. Is it borne out of complacency, stupidity or greed? The cynic in me wonders if a luxury block had gone up and many rich people had been killed the outcome would have been a bit different? No common sense...

Not surprising. The person that tests fire blankets wears a full fire suit and protective gloves and has 30 minutes to put the fire out once the heat is turned off. Who wears a full fire suit when cooking in the kitchen?

I chatted to a fireman a while back who explained that EVERYTHING is combustible and that fire resistant foam/cladding burns at a much higher temperature. The problem is once it’s burning water isn’t enough to stop it! So much more to it than people realise

This material is already BANNED , which is the point she was making on CH4 this evening,! It was used illegally, which is why building regulations need to be more stringent!
