A question to put to all MPs who oppose grammar schools: If you think grammar schools are bad for children and don’t want there to be more of them, why aren’t you campaigning to close down all the existing grammar schools? Surely they’re bad too?

I don't have a problem with Grammar schools but think the money should be spent on improving Junior education, English and Maths in particular need to be improved.

I would close down the existing Grammars. Grammars are great for those who get in to them but detrimental for all the kids that dont i.e. local schools lose funding and staff as a direct result of grammars so all other kids get a worse education.

I.e. you are making the educational chances of the many worse for the benefit of a privileged few.

I can think of 2 without trying. (1) Costs of change argument. (2) Political costs argument.

The country they ruined. They seem to blame each other when they are both to blame for the mess we are in. They have both caused division and the problems we face with terror.

My point is more the Conservatives lost their majority on this proposal. Hence it was rejected by the public.
