Equally, the nasty Tory campaign for London Mayor which tried to play the Sadiq-Khan-is-a-Muslim-nudge-nudge-terrorism card cost them my vote in 2016. It’s really simple, folks: Don’t vote for racists. Ever.https://twitter.com/juliahb1/status/992368685099765760 …

People keep saying that Labour’s anti-semitism problem has cost them votes from Jewish people. That’s wrong. It should cost them votes from ALL decent people - regardless of their religion or heritage.

And yes, I know Islam and Judaism are religions not ethnic groups, but I’m afraid racists don’t worry about such trifling details.

Judaism is a religion but Jews are a distinct race. There's no crusading converting doctrine. Jewishness is inherited through the matriarchal line. One does not simply 'covert' to being jewish any more than one can convert from Asian to caucasian. Different to islam/christianity.

Islam, Judaism, Christianity and all religions are political ideologies first and foremost. They try to set rules on political & social matters. They limit individuality & modernity. Which is why we must be free to debate & criticise them.

Unfortunately any criticism or discussion of any religion or cult earns you the taunt of being racist, Islamaphobic or xenophobic.

It is certainly a racial grouping to be Jewish. Judaism is not a crusading converting religion - matriarchal inheritance I understand. It is possible to criticise ideology without criticising the race (anti-Semitism)

Julia, our politics are different in many ways, but I’d like to show my appreciation for your acknowledgement of anti-semitism, transgenderism, and so many issues that the Left tries to ignore

Unlike those now in leadership on the Left, I appreciate that people have different politics, but we share the same values: basic human decency and tolerance. Our differences are over implementation of means to demonstrate this!

Technically, a race is just a method of grouping a section of people. So you can be racist against a religion.

To be clear, I'm not saying people *should* be racist against a religion.

Why would you want to be racist against people with blue eyes? Haven't they suffered enough already?! I thought people with your views had been consigned to the history books. Sadly not.

But in all seriousness, yes: "A race is a grouping of humans based on shared physical or social qualities into categories generally viewed as inherently distinct by society" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_(human_categorization) …

Merriam Webster definition: Racism - belief that race is primary determinant of human traits & capacities & that racial differences produce inherent superiority of a particular race. Seems word racism is only applicable to race; bigotry (religious or otherwise) correct elsewhere.

So like I said; it's whatever society deems it to be. If people begin to separate out people with blue eyes as being a lesser entity, then that's racism. In same way, people can be racist based on religious beliefs.

Religion is not a physical characteristic. Doesn't depend on genes either. Why not call it religious discrimination or prejudice - why bring word race into it at all?
