The private school sector is absurdly badly managed. There is just no good reason for this kind of runaway inflation.https://twitter.com/jessbrammar/status/989744709613502464 …

Average private school fees rise above £17,000 a year for first time. I’m sorry but this will never not be sort of hilarious to people who went to comprehensive school. https://www.theguardian.com/education/2018/apr/27/average-private-school-fees-rise-above-17000-a-year-for-first-time?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other …

You'd expect a premium on state spending, not least because they have to cover capital from the fees (and state schools don't).

If you have this kind of money to spend on your kid's education, send them to a comp and hire a tutor. Especially if you live in London.

And, please; ignore anyone who says the state system has much to learn from these people who bleed cash while taking easy-to-teach kids

One of the key reasons I send my daughter to a private school is precisely that she is in a class of children who are easy to teach, who are raised in homes where they are encouraged to want to learn, where being a “swot” isn’t something that’s mocked.

All of the best school systems in the world have a lot less private / independent schools. Finland is nearly all comprehensive schools so to speak and they have the best system in the world. Private schools just serve to entrench the class system.

I agree on all counts. I wasn’t interested in anything but giving my child a good education. It simply wasn’t available in the state sector where I live. I don’t see why she should suffer.

Sure I understand. Everyone wants the best for their children and if I could afford it I probably would do the same. However I the system is a bad one which encourages segregation and better to see all schools become great and offer the same opportunities regardless of wealth.

Absolutely. But the problem isn’t money, it’s lazy and bad parenting. Far for many children arrive at school now who are unteachable. It ruins the chances of getting a good education for a whole class.

Just as well they're easy to teach, given that private schools do not require their staff to have Qualified Teacher Status.
