Anecdotes are not data though - your Oxbridge background partly reflects broader picture. Why do not more regional non-Oxbridge journos make it into national, London-based media?

Its just possible that people who go to Oxbridge are on average quite smart and talented so might do well on merit (and benefit from the brand that Oxbridge meritocratic elite status brings) This is not 100% of the story, but at least part of it.
