I wonder why ppl can’t manage the cognitive tension of a) of course someone shouldn’t be prosecuted for killing someone when threatened in their own home & b) it is still tragic that someone lost their life & that someone was still worthy of love despite being in the wrong?https://twitter.com/juliahb1/status/984385119040540672 …

Hey, chief superintendent, why are you calling the killing in self-defence of a violent career criminal a “tragic death”? The burglar wasn’t the victim - even now. The elderly couple whose home he invaded & whom he attacked are the real victims. https://twitter.com/metpoliceuk/status/984150935357345792 …

It isn’t tragic that he lost his life. Which part of that don’t your understand? Just because his family is mourning him, that doesn’t make his death tragic.

Of course it’s tragic-a burglar deserves prison not death. Also tragic that the pensioner who did it has to live with it through no fault of his own-I wouldn’t want to have killed someone, even lawfully in self-defence-would you? (Not saying I wouldn’t in that circumstance)

He didn't deserve prison. He'd been in & out since 2003, clearly it wasn't one for reforming. He continued to target the weak & elderly. He reaped what he sowed by the life he lead. He won't be doing it anymore. The pensioner could have died instead

It's the least tragic death I could think of. Buglar stabbed by desparate pensioner, defending his wife from 2 armed men. There are many saying he didn't deserve this but he deliberately targetted the weak. They just weren't weak enough in this case.

So of course there are many more tragic deaths. Of course he exclusively has himself to blame. But you know, we don’t have the death penalty & if we did it wouldn’t be for burglary - I’ve been burgled 4 times in my life. I’m glad I didn’t kill any of them.

HIs death was actually self inflicted. It wasn't 'tragic', he's not a martyr, his death should not be glorified. he was at the very best, complete scum. He prayed on the most vulnerable in society and his family grief should not be imposed on the local community.

The reason the pensioner was released without charge is down to the travellers custom of non cooperation with the police and are most likely hiding his accomplice ..otherwise the case would of been still ongoing
