I’d prefer to think that due process has driven this outcome.

I think it did. Police arrested him and interviewed him, bailed him and sent the file to the CPS. CPS reviewed it, applied the law and decided there is no case and no need to waste money on a trial.

It's not common sense. It's a case of due process and the operation of the law. The police had a duty to investigate a violent death. They've investigated and made a disposition in accordance with the law and policy
-
I don;t think anyone is arguing about that, it's the fact he was locked up for 48 hrs with a wife with dementia at home. Common sense tells you he was no danger to anyone and should have been bailed.

Exonerated but he's had to move home and have his house boarded up that poor family is dear wife suffers with dementia the police ought to be ashamed of themselves.
-
Don’t blame the Police. It was a paper exercise to comply with the law. Blame the traveller family that saw fit to burgle his home, then cause him to possibly have to move because of the expected threats and retribution from a ‘group’ that have no respect for anything.
-
Taking a 78 year old distressed male from his house in handcuffs and keeping me in a cell for 2 days so who should we blame@
-
Was he in handcuffs? Look at it another way. If someone stabbed a relative of yours to death, would you be happy if it wasn’t investigated? It had to be, it’s the law. The only way to do that and comply with procedure is to arrest.

Not happy with your conclusion. We need to know why he was interviewed as a potential criminal and not as a witness (AND victim). Why was he detained overnight? The CPS boss was sacked this week and I think this case his one of her legacy 'deposits'

The council should hold a reception for him to show the rest of the UK what a good citizen is.

Nothing to do with common sense. Clearly acted within the law so no case to answer.

This persons name and address have now been in the public domain for 24 hrs. Imo he should have had his personal details kept private as his safety could be in question. Would you campaign to keep such details for all charged defendants private ie. innocent until proved guilty ?
