Many are Julia. Are you suggesting that although she may have been financially sound a few years ago, she should have prepared for a decade of wage cuts as a nurse *just in case*? There are also multitude of other factors you don't know about so shouldn't judge.
-
Also child care costs are incredibly expensive especially when you don’t have a partner / family to help with that. Julia do u lack the compassion gene?

The idea that everyone should have enough spare cash to survive real pay cuts year on year almost indefinitely is one that is particularly detached from the real world of working class life.
-
I worked in a food bank, many people including employed came in because they have a money crisis and no savings to go to.
-
Yep, the squeeze on standard of living of working class people has left millions on the edge of crisis. Yet the commentators and political pundits are all comfortably middle class so have no idea about the real world.
-
Nurses are also leaving the profession in large numbers because of the squeeze on wages and living standards. It's good that Julia's friend is coping well but the numbers show it's not the standard, particularly in places where housing is more expensive.

My sister in law is a single parent and a chef who earns nowhere near £30,000 a year, lives in a lovely semi. Never had to go to a food bank!! Ok she doesn’t holiday abroad 4 times a year!

Call me crazy Matt but I think there's probably a few details missing from this story.

Hold on a second Julia, are you now getting to the point where you ignore clear & basic fact to still blame a hard working, single mother for being skint?

Anyone can use an anecdote to prove a point either way. Simple fact is that if something is free people will have it.

Julia, perhaps if people like you paid your proper share of taxes we could afford to pay our nurses a proper wage, or at least build affordable housing for them...

Well she's capable of saving lives but not managing her money like the other people, is that what you are saying. Just because it's hard to hear and you find it hard to believe doesn't mean it's not true or some kind of idiotic chose has been made. The only idiot her is you.
