Some of my best friends are single parent nurses

He gave one example. I gave one example. Is mine not valid?

Exactly,
@RevRichardColes manages to host a radio show without being a nasty, spiteful hatemonger... extrapolating generalities from the example of an individual case is often a mistake. -
Trying to teach Julia Hartley Brewer the meaning of empathy is like trying to teach a labrador astrophysics. Confusing and frustrating for all parties involved.pic.twitter.com/lfwnMPDnrG

Well then in that case no other variables can exist. Tell me Julia have you ever thought about working in scientific research? Your ability to come to conclusions without aggregate data could really speed things up in that field
-
The only conclusion to this is the nurse has massive debts or lives way above her means. Do the sums
-
Nope. It could be as simple as living to a budget then years of pay cuts mean you can no longer meet those fixed costs you previously budgeted for.
-
No I'm not having the real terms pay cut argument I haven't had a rise for 10 yrs it doesn't wash, without using real facts not just supposition it's really is a long winded discussion of might may could would should, but is highly unlikely
-
Whether you have it or not it's a fact. If there living costs were 29k and they earnt 30k, they could simply try to maintain the same living standard, even cutting back, but if costs rise above there's nothing to be done. There but for the grace if God, Gaz

Look we all know you're paid to have contrarian heartless opinions to a deadline but maybe do ones that aren't so easy to pick apart

Her nursing wage won’t be her only income. If she’s a single mother she’ll receive child benefit, tax credits, possibly housing benefit and even child maintenance from the child’s father. Her basic income would NOT support her financially.

My nan had a nurse in the back of her cab once... Asked if she could break a £50...

does it not depend on rent levels, transport costs, number of children, debt levels etc
-
Rent and transport costs are the main factors, in my experience. I am single parent and NHS employee on v decent salary but due to those two things I have had to cut out all luxuries so I ensure I can afford food.
-
It always amazes me how expensive rents are in some locations.
-
More than 50% of my monthly net income. And with NHS payscales the same across country, I would earn the same if I lived up North somewhere but rents would be much cheaper. If I worked in London I would get travel allowance - even though my commute to Reading costs more
