I was pregnant for 9 months & had a 74 hour labour. How on earth could I have had the same midwife throughout? What a load of nonsense. My midwives were going off shift & coming back on shift & off shift again while I was still in the maternity ward!https://twitter.com/guardian/status/977842135499268096 …

Me too! At one point I had a lovely Australian male midwife! All went wrong when epidural administered. Won’t bore you with details but I have one child and if had wanted more that experience wld have put paid to it. Results of Caesarian still felt 25 yrs on

At The Portland they make sure you meet all their midwives during your pregnancy checks so whoever you end up with you have a relationship with.

Ah you see that's the problem. One shouldn't have a relationship with the help. 😉

Maybe he means same team of midwives. They work in threes where I live and are assigned when you first get preggers.

I think the idea is to have one midwife who has overall responsibility which is actually a good idea- she will of course delegate when she is off duty and away but to have an overview would save lives.

Throughout pregnancy...not throughout the birth Julia! Obviously there will be unavoidable changes but not a bad aspiration surely...

In fairness it says “midwifes” not midwife as you’ve stated Julia.

It’s the touchy feely sisters -together thing. The only thing that mattered to me during my wife’s pregnancies was that I had immediate access to a top Obstetrician.
