45 minutes after our flight was due to take off, our plane is about to be de-iced so it can fly. I can only assume that no one working at Luton has access to TV or radio weather reports or has been outdoors for the past 36 hours. #SurpriseSnowAgain

That said, we’re on @easyJet so the cabin crew are absolutely LOVELY - they’re so much nicer and more professional than the grim-faced Nurse Ratchetts you get on BA.

Yes, it couldnt possibly be that other planes needed de-icing that were due to take off before yours & that's put em behind schedule could it?

Yes, and everyone working at Luton knew all of those planes needed de-icing. Start early, board early and keep everyone on time, no?

Start early & let them ice up again, yeah, that'd be a beaut for safety......

How do airports in routinely cold countries manage to keep all flights on time then?

Ahh, so we're a routinely cold part of the world now, and need conveyor belt style management of the runways, with shift after shift of contracted de-icers do we? Cracking move that, hire staff for the year that you're going to need for about 3 weeks tops

I don’t expect us to spend the same as, say, Norway, but it’s one bloke in a crane spraying de-icer. It’s hardly multi-billion pound expenditure, is it?

And why would contract workers need to be hired for 52 weeks a year?

Oh, now they get contractors in......at short notice, no risk assessment, no length of contract agreed, so in effect, no contract?? It's like when you bang on about Brexit, you get presented with facts & just plough on regardless dont you.......

Julia : it is no good de-icing an aeroplane other than MINUTES before take off. The wings/tail freeze up very quickly AFTER de-icing fluid has been sloshed all over them. Got it ? Glad you’re not running an airline !

Luton airport is on top of a hill, I’m surprised you haven’t got your “planks” out and put that 45 minutes to better use?

Planes sometimes need de-icing more than once before they can take off I am afraid. I work in aviation, and know that some of the things we have to do for safety's sake can be a drag for passengers, but a plane failing to reach altitude and crashing is not an option. Safe trip!

But, but... You see this was not supposed to happen because the "scientists" told us years ago that AGW would mean it would never snow here again. It's all an illusion Julia.
