Republic of Ireland seem to forget that nearly all it's trade is transported through the UK.
-
Nope, they know. That's why they have opened new routes to Spain and France bypassing the UK. Wouldn't surprise me if there are more planned!
-
It would take a further 48hours plus to deliver their goods to Europe. You wait and see what happens when this awful weather lifts.
-
Not saying its ideal but at least they are contingency planning. Which is more than can be said for the UK government!
-
It's so annoying that at the end of negotiations, it's that trade still needs to continue. Brussels needs to ease of its hard line approach.
-
Nigel, with the greatest respect, you are missing the point! A "hard border" between the UK & EU, has got NOTHING AT ALL, to do with the EU! If we trade, solely, on WTO rules, there will have to be a "hard border", unless we open OUR borders to ALL WTO members! That's WTO RULES!
-
I agree with what you say in essence; the UK is after that unique bespoke deal. The UK's in a prominent position to get what it wants.
-
This bespoke deal will however require at least 2 things: 1) Willingness to share sovereignty 2) Time to go through all the details a deal like this will inevitably involve The UK lacks both.

Depends on whether you're a patriot, Julia. Our tariffs protect our workers and farmers, often from unfair competition. Trump's tariffs operate against our industries and workers.

Indeed. US moves towards protectionism - America First - and Trump’s an ogre. EU IS already the most protectionist organisation on the planet - EU First - yet the U.K. is backward thinking and foolish to be seeking independence from it.

What tariffs are EU trying to impose? Confused by your line of thinking. There will be when we leave EU but that’s our choice. Nothing to do with them.
