It's partly why the UK hasn't got what it takes to be a global player on its own. Too many people think work is just something they have to do as little of as necessary to get paid.
-
-
-
Why should they do more than is necessary?
-
To improve themselves. To not be first choice when the time comes to reduce headcount. To help their employer do well in a globally-competive world so that they can keep their job.
-
I see your points. However, there are plenty on low wages who have been asked to do more for the same or less for many years - a cheeky snow day may just seem deserved to them.
-
"asked to do more for the same or less for years" - that's our productivity gap in action. The UK will end up as a low-wage offshore manufacturing base for Europe and Asia. Unless people get a grip and stop blaming the EU for our own inadequacies.

Haven't you seen the weather forecasters!!! EVERYONE WILL DIE IF THEY GO OUT!!!.I liked the forecast from the depths of Scotland yesterday when a dude on a pushbike pedalled by whistling nonchalantly while the presenter was warning of fire and brimstone if anyone dared go out!

The modern British world isn’t very “British”.
-
I think that you'll find that immigrants have a better work ethic than a lot of the native Brits.

How do you Radio presenters always manage to get to work regardless of the weather. Radio presenters travel to their work, to tell their listeners NOT to travel.

Red weather warning, Julia. It means possible risk to life.
-
Noooo Julia knows better than the professionals that then have to rescue selfish dumb types that have the ‘won’t let a bit of snow stop me!’ attitude...

That’s not even news. I despair at what the BBC considers news. It’s become a magazine website.
