Could poverty end as soon as 2030? Extreme poverty has already fallen from 85 percent in 1800 to just 12 percent.. https://buff.ly/2GxPoSL

Extreme poverty (absolute poverty) is different to relative poverty. A single man on £50k a year is in relative poverty compared to @richardbranson Absolute poverty must be the focus, people who literally have nothing.

£50k is not poverty - relative or otherwise. Zero contracts, part time work and below basic hourly rate is poverty wages. Gee whizz where do you get this stuff from. People in this country are starving, freezing to death, no access to shelter or homes. 13k military vets homeless.

That's how relative poverty works. It's not based on disposable income but as a comparative. That's why absolute poverty is a real measure.

The metric used as benchmark around the world without true weighting for differing costs is around $1-$2 per day (depending in source). It assumes anyone in any country on $1-$2 per day is out of extreme poverty. The whole premise is false and used to make a political point.

You're right there is something evil about companies charging exorbitant APR for small loans, there is something evil about leaving the homeless to die on the streets and there is something evil in overpricing energy so people are forced to make a choice between heating and food

So long as we remain in the EU, we will become poorer as a nation, so child poverty isn't likely to improve unless we leave, IN FULL.

Yeah, they often like to ignore that it’s “evil” Capitalism that has lifted billions out of abject poverty. Same people bang on that this time socialism or communism CAN work... Stalin, Hitler, Mao etc couldn’t make these naff ideas work, but this time... So arrogantly ignorant!

Poverty can never be eradicated when the definition is the Labour one of a proportion of average wage.
