I don’t agree with Richard Littlejohn that a man & woman would necessarily raise a child better than a gay couple. But he is entitled to express his opinion in our free country, and his opinion is not homophobic. CenterParcs need to get a grip.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-43093154 …

Does this mean you need to get a grip too then? Getting worked up about Center Parcs expressing an opinion. I'm confused.

The problem, as you well know, is that his opinion is expressed in a national publication and is intended to demean and oppress another group of human beings and CentreParcs have acted accordingly. It's not rocket science, Julia. It really isn't.

Shall we start with the title. 'Please don't pretend two dads is the new normal'. Ho do you think that sounds Julia? Do you think it sounds like he's treating homosexual couples as equals?

But given that the vast majority of children born are not born to two dads, using a surrogate (something which I have no issue with, BTW), then what is factually wrong with that headline?

That said, the word “normal” is not one I would use. As I said, I disagree with his views on this. But he is entitled to express them.

I haven't said he is not entitled to express his views. I understand the concept of freedom of speech and the reaction to his column, whatever it is, does not affect his right to it.

If Centre Parks are not entitled to control what appears in a newspaper next to their adverts, then their only recourse when bile like this appears is to pull their ads. It's a free country after all.

You told centre parks to "get a grip" implying their position is wrong without acknowledging their right to hold it. Expressing ones opinion may be a right, but neither you nor Littlejohn have the right to be protected from the consequences of doing so.

I don’t need to acknowledge their right to hold that opinion. I didn’t impose a consequence on them for their opinion. Some of us understand free speech.

Being associated with what you or Littlejohn say by dint of advertising via the same channels has consequences for Centre Parks. When what you say has consequences for advertising revenue it will probably have consequences for you. You are not too big to fail, ask Hopkins.

But please note, I am not saying you should not be free to express your opinion, you should be. Just as Centre Parks should be free to respond if they don't agree.
