UK doesn't have FREE trade in EU as defined by what FREE trade should represent (see RoW). Still tariffs but you are right on regs. Purpose of Brexit is to rid UK of EU definition of tariff trade & obtuse regulations - UK Gov must reverse pdq #NOdealnecessary = FREE trade

-
Name one ‘obtuse’ regulation that genuinely harms us.
-
Here's the thing - 'regs' will still exist regardless of any trade deal. The EU are not going to roll back regulation to suit British industry, so even if we CAN trade, we must STILL meet the regulatory requirements.
-
WRONG. Our regs here will soften. If EU make life difficult their trade will be lost. The same applies to tariffs. This scenario is all about fair trade, ease of business and ultimately PRICE
-
Nope - if we wish to sell to them, and they say a widget must be X, Y, Z - then it MUST be X, Y, Z - otherwise it won't be allowed in. Our softening of regs is our call, theirs will be what it is - nothing gets easier for business here, it only adds complexity.
-
If UK eases up on regs we can trade more efficiently. If EU chooses to impose higher tariffs with complicated paperwork then trade will go to USA China Japan India Russia Brazil A&NZ RoW. By being shackled to EU for decades UK has lost out too many times
#Brexit -
Time will tell how this all shakes out. I tend to think that operating in a global economy will drive more than local deals. We're part of the cycle regardless of whether we're in the EU or not. Over time, Brexit will probably not show a huge difference either way.
-
Tend to agree but UK will be able to make its own way instead of being leeched by EU. If UK can trade FREEly on similar terms as current then your assessment will be right but suspect a petty minded attempt to constrict UK trade into EU & vice-versa will occur

There's also a lot of difference between 'should be' and 'will be'

There is an easier one. "Hey, you know that incredibly lucrative trade deal we have now? The one that changed us from the sick man of Europe to a G7 player? Let's stay in it." "OK"
-
We were the sick man of Europe because of socialist tax and spend policies, we got out of it because of Thatchers policies not the EU
-
Wasn't Heath PM from 1970 to 75? Not sure about Conservative party policy but pretty certain they never espoused socialism. We were the sick man of Europe because we refused to face up to decolonisation. The EU saved us.
-
The EU didn't save us. Thatcher saved us
-
Nope. it was Europe. They kindly saved us from our own pathetic stupidity like they will do with Brexit. Make no mistakes, every good thing in your life you owe to the EU. Being an ingrate won't change facts.

Oh my days. You're completely besotted
