“No platform for fascist scum”, they shouted. I can only assume they must have meant the aggressive men wearing balaclavas shouting down a democratically elected MP. #theonlyfascistsintheroom https://twitter.com/raheemkassam/status/959529976616947712 …

There were a couple of guys who stepped in to confront the protesters. JRM got in between them . You see it in the video.pic.twitter.com/9wR94fNqB1

These are people who didn’t *even* get into Bristol...
-
We were all thinking it but only you were brave enough to say it. I was going for the “university” option...
-
Hi
@UWEBristol are you and your students happy to have your university mocked and run down by@JuliaHB1? -
Let’s see what they do about it, if they are not going to take action against those but job, maybe it indicates a policy of open abuse is acceptable?
-
My concern is where was security to escort the thugs out. Bad image!
-
It’s a shame we would need to have security anyway. The doors were locked, the event was ticketed. Supposedly in an institution where the more intelligent would be present.
-
Indeed. I wouldn't give these thugs the vote let alone 16 year olds!

Your point is wrong on two counts: 1) in his own words he said he wasn't attacked and didn't need 'defending' 2) his supporters punched a female protester, which started the fracas.
-
The fact that people like you are trying to defend this behaviour speaks volumes.
-
So does the fact you're unclear about what actually happened but are happy to go along with it because it confirms a self serving bias through an unexamined schema you've clearly developed. Don't worry about that though.
-
Aggressive thugs trying to shut down free speech. Plenty of historical precedents for it and it never ends well.
-
Sure, the civil rights movement, the suffragettes. Went really badly didn't it
-
Neither of them were about shutting down free speech, quite the opposite actually. To compare these thugs with them is a bit distasteful.
-
Depends what you call free speech
-
If you need free speech defining then you have problems but here you go. ‘The right to express any opinions without censorship or restraint’

Don’t agree with a lot of his views but you’v got to admire the way he marched over and engaged with them conversationally and then tried to keep the sides apart

‘Being challenged’, yes absolutely. All politicians should be challenged - that’s politics. Direct action? That’s a one way ticket to making yourself look like an idiot - I can’t articulate an argument so I’ll dress up in a balaclava and shout a lot... poor show.
