I just don’t understand why these silly Iranian women are wasting their time on this sort of nonsense when there are women at the BBC who are fighting the true oppression of a six figure salary every day. #prayfortherealvictimshttps://twitter.com/negarmortazavi/status/958000033365970944 …

Iranian women put their scarves on sticks in the middle of busy streets, as a peaceful protest to mandatory Hijab laws. We have been fighting this unfair law for three decades, slowly but consistently. We fought and we pushed back. And this is where we are today. pic.twitter.com/cwNOiykTUp

You say you advocate free education because you got a full grant because your mum was so poor and obviously no fees then but how do you think kids living in poverty due to tory austerity will be healthy or well educated enough to benefit from that?

I never said my mum was poor. I said I qualified for a full grant. I oppose the end of maintenance grants & rise in fees. I don’t believe the child of any responsible parent in this country goes hungry.

You said you were entitled to a full grant because your mum didn't earn enough, you also said she wasn't a single parent?

Not earning enough isn’t the same as being poor.

I take it then it was just calculated on your mum's earnings?

Yes. It was a LONG time ago, Emma. Grants were the norm then. What exactly is the point you are trying but failing to make?

I feel I am making a very clear point, the grant was based on earnings of your parents. It's not a hard question to answer. Nothing has changed fraud has always been fraud.

Jesus Christ. Yes, I was entitled to and for a full grant. You didn’t have to be “poor” to get a grant then. You had to have low earnings. Not the same thing. What is so complicated about this?

I teach my kids to compare themselves with the best not the worst and never say "everyone was doing it" to say it was the Norm and everyone was fiddling grants is pathetic, it is stealing, same as benefit fraud I assume you wouldn't agree with?

So the child of a parent unfairly sanctioned left with no means of feeding them is not going to go hungry? You really are not in the real world. To get a full grant you had to be on a very low income plus no tuition fees then.

She obviously believes the "deserving" middle class poor, GPS daughter should get a free education like she did and loads of them (not accusing her) fiddled full grants then use the old excuse oh everyone was doing it. Well no they weren't, bus drivers on PAYE kids didn't get it.

Weird - don’t recall well-paid bus drivers back then. More common for working class kids to be discouraged from “getting above” themselves

They weren't particularly Elizabeth that's how I know the level for a full grant was very low and it galls me to think likes if £50 note burning Bullingdon @BorisJohnson got one bet they all did. How can that be? OK it's in the past but relevant cos now they advocate huge debt
