I’m a temp worker & my agency asks me to dress sexily (inc what knickers to wear) for a job as a “hostess” at a boozy all male dinner where, the agency tells me, I may be groped. I agree to do the job. A woman’s prerogative, surely? #PresidentsClub

I have to say on this occasion, I disagree. Being a hostess and being asked to dress nice for position is not an invitation.

To me it means be welcoming, friendly and perhaps serve drinks or canapes from a tray. Being groped wouldn't cross my mind

They weren’t working in the catering industry. They were employed as hostesses. They knew the deal

Read the article. The women were told in advance what the job involved. Anyone ever told you what knickers to wear to work?

I worked in catering for YEARS. There are hostesses who greet customers and seat them at their tables. And there are the other kind of hostesses. I think we all know the difference.

Hostesses on nights like this means flirt with the wealthy men and get them drunk so they’ll donate more to the charity. However there’s still a line between flirting very suggestively and having to be groped etc.

Julia almost seems to be suggesting that girls who flirt (as part of the job) with the guys are asking to be sexually assaulted. Sadly she is adding to the issue where men seem to think it’s OK to just abuse women with no ramifications.

The OED begs to differ. Authors like Robert McFarlane have documented the rapid change in language (and it's wider impact on knowledge and understanding). So I think your statement is wholly unfounded and completely wrong.

Despite your perceived differences between "hostesses" and "hoestesses", whatever the hell that means, l don't think it made much difference to the men groping your arse, one pretty much looked like another to them. That's the problem, we all look like meat.
