Why, Julia? To see how cynical and vicious some people are? To shore up the idea that being horrified by the plight of children is "hand-wringing" or "virtue-signalling"? Give it a rest.https://twitter.com/JuliaHB1/status/953609550904651776 …

What is cynical about people asking, perfectly reasonably, why these children can’t seek asylum in France?

They weren't asking "perfectly reasonably". There is a very distinct undercurrent. And the issue is that the government made an undertaking it has not honoured.

Who are you to decide what is a reasonable or unreasonable question? The undercurrent is that UK have no obligation to take anybody who is not a Citizen of the UK. Econ. migrants have to follow a legal process to enter the UK. Refugees should seek refuge in 1st. Safe country.

My name is John. I live in Windsor. DM me if you need more info. I prefer to protect my privacy on Social Media, but will share it with you if you insist. I could make up a fake First name & Surname but chose a nickname instead.

I don't insist. I simply notice how frequently anonymity provides people with a way to speak differently to people than they would in real life. If you live in Windsor, do come to the benefit I'm organising there for local homeless people, on St George's Day.

What will happen at this benefit? Will you find a solution to those living on the streets of Windsor who have refused offers of housing from @RBWM Or for the 1000s of Windsor born & bred people on housing waiting lists who can't get housed despite paying taxes?

I really hope we'll talk about all the issues around housing, but yes - primarily I hope we can make some difference to the homeless community. I also hope we'll just listen to each others' stories. You'd be welcome.

Additionally, many of them are trying to, but their claims are not being processed. Many are orphans. France and the UK must share responsibility, but the major point is a humanitarian one.

It's true, I don't have refugees living with me. I did, however, arrange and host a benefit evening last year, at which many refugees spoke and performed. It changed me, I hope for the better. And we also raised money for a whole range of communities. Not just handwringing.

Do you seriously think that both Italy and Greece are not dealing with refugees? They are; and so must we. We are talking about people in dire need, and children no different from ours. Get a grip.
