Puzzling: all his life Corbyn followed Benn demanding Labour party democracy. Now he's in charge, does he still want power to the members? 87% of party want to stay in Single Market and Customs Union, why doesn't he? http://bit.ly/2EGUOKa

Tony Benn / Roy Jenkins 1975 debate on the eu is as relevant today 43 years on as it was then. If anyone wants to see a crystal ball in action get yourself on youtube and watch it 😉

I In 1975 I was hoping for brave new world. Looking back at the speeches of the day, I wish I listened (no internet) to all the arguments. As you have stated, arguments that are still relevant today.

Well. I've spent the last 18 months going back through the archives trying to understand the Brexit debate. No doubt in my mind that our political class are completely responsible for were we are today. They can't just blame the EU. They have been weak on so many levels.

He'd shut up these plastic socialists like Gina Miller and the rest. Benn saw through the emerging dictatorship that is the EU.

Might not have agreed with Benn's politics but could never fault his passion, integrity and honesty.

I believe that in Tony Benn’s day there were far more politicians (on both sides) who entered politics because of their beliefs, because they wanted to make a change, a difference. Today’s career politicians are in the main concerned with making changes for their own benefit.
