I didn’t say it was an innocent joke. I said it was a joke. It was indeed a sick joke. But this is supposed to be a free country with free speech. People are allowed to make sick jokes. Until you and your mates trample all over our basic democratic rights.

That's not the same as curtailing free speech - it's facing the consequence of your actions. He hasn't been arrested

I'm amazed that a journalist doesn't actually understand the relationship between free speech, inappropriate comments, hate speech and consequences.

Within 10 years "sick" jokes will be a public offence. Comedy will be as funny as an episode of Friends. How depressing.

I don't, but if some do then it's up to them. Are you saying that humour is only acceptable if not sick or in poor taste? Who decides? Will there be humour police undercover in public places to make sure a guy with his mates in the pub doesn't tell an offensive joke?

because Sarah Vine is moaning We might as well just give up on democracy and let Twitter run the country. Isn't twitter the public exercising their right to free speech yet the right are always lining up to criticise news outlets they don't own/control and social media 1/2
