No firm allows its employees to openly criticise it.

This is not a firm, but a public service broadcaster, and they are not assessing her ability to present a programme impartially, but assuming she can't. Academics with views can be impartial, so too broadcasters.

Very well put. PS you look very different without a Liverpool FC shirt !!

BBC have long since lost the respect of the people, it's one scandal & cover-up after another. Its News & current affairs coverage is agendered & biased, its programming aged and tired. The old Auntie is dead, time to bury her.

It's too late for the BBC to close this down. The biggest shock for me was learning of the obscene salaries they pay with OUR money.

It is a bit disgraceful that a very good journalist has to resign over something as basic as a huge difference because (whisper it!) A mere woman.

BBC in some danger of damning free speech. Impartiality is not taking everyone off air who has views, only if they abuse their position should that be done.

Heavy snow in the Alps, worse for 30 yrs, people stranded, people missing. But we get headlines from the BBC about the BBC. Oh and rich actresses dressed in black.

Who knew who Carrie Gracie was before this nonsense? Who would have cared? It's of very little interest to the folks of UK.
-
Actually if after Brexit the UK is to have trade with the rest of the world knowing a bit about China is in its best interest.

Not so sure. The BBC couldn’t get a statement from the BBC on this subject on BBC News yesterday. Good work all round.

How would you feel if everyone else was covering it and the BBC didn't cover it at all? Surely that would be worse?

Indeed. How fortunate Carrie Gracie was to see an advert for a BBC newsroom job here so soon after resigning from her China job!
