#BREXIT Is it just me or is @theresa_may playing some weird game where she allows the EU to show its true face before saying F***k off and walks away to WTO heaven? I cannot believe such an intelligent woman would allow these MEN to walk all over her.

I don’t remember €50 billion being mentioned during the referendum. Was it on the side of a bus?

@eureferendum Paying £50 Billion just to talk is not the case at all. It is settling the amounts that the United Kingdom promised to pay as part of the current MFF which ends in 2020 and the RAL (accruals). It is also access to the agencies we need after we leave such as EMA.

3 things in first tranche: EU citizens rights (easy), our promised payments (we played silly buggers) and the Irish border which COULD be easy if we went for the @EFTA4UK /EEA Article 112 option. TBH we have made it hard for ourselves IMO. £50BN for £125BN in trade is a bargain

The money is not yet agreed (as far as I know). If the money is agreed then Trade might be discussed as the Irish Border needs to be rolled into trade agreement I think. Until the 1st 3 issues were agreed the next phase could not start and the UK has been stalling TBH

Actually it is our timetable. We invoked Art 50 (or Mrs May did) at a time of the PM's choosing when she was ready. She started the machine and it runs for 24 months. May could have offered £50BN at the start but did not.

Good clarification but one question remains: How much of that 45b is returned as investment in projects agreed etc... Bearing in mind we are paying a gross amount of 18b per year even 50b once settled still saves us billions per year once we're out..
