I have never understood why the UK has to pay anything to leave the EU. If being part of the EU has really been such a benefit to the UK, wouldn't leaving the EU be enough of a penalty?

Think of it like a bus journey you paid for thinking it was going where you wanted to go. Then when you discovered it was going in the wrong direction, they want you to pay again to get off.

-
Not only do they want you to pay, the want you to fund the fleet of buses for the foreseeable future! They are conmen, chancers, charlatans.
-
Think of it as 27 people owning a supermarket. Together you ordered crisps, beer, fruit for the next years. If 1 decides to leave he still needs to pay his share of the ordered crisps, even if he won't be benefiting from them. He made a commitment.

Does he get the sales proceeds from the stock when it is sold? Or is the stock given away to new customers for free whilst the established management draw huge salaries and enjoy outrageous perks in the meantime?

It's almost as if they were in some sort of 'union" to protect their common interests.

The EU has relished the Remoaner complicity in talking down our negotiating position time and time again. The result? The EU has fleeced Britain to the tune of billions. Well done Remoaners! What a stunning own goal!

-
Not quite yet. Rumours are that the PM is going to refuse to pay the bill until after trade negotiations are done, something the unbending EU will reject..

The EU doesn't need to compromise ....they don't care about Brexit..is that not obvious?

If you look at TM's tenure at the Home Office over 7 years this should come as no surprise.

Why should they? UK decided to leave, so has to suck it up. What a pain eh? And I thought Brexit cheerleaders said the UK:- a) had "all the cards", b) were going to negotiate "the easiest deal in human history". What went wrong JHB? Things seem "stickier" than promised, no?

This is how contracts work if you don't fulfill your part of the agreement you need to put the others in the position they would have been had you carried out your part of the agreement

But it's gonna be so easy, we hold all the cards. Prosecco, BMW, blah blah blah. Quite pathetic to have thought that they need us more than we need them.

Why should they compromise. Do you think it is a negotiation? 27 vs. 1 is not and will never be a negotiation. The party with the biggest leverage takes it all.
