FFS. Why won’t the govt get a grip on this? It’s hardly rocket science to process payments earlier. Very few working families could go SIX WEEKS without any money coming in.https://twitter.com/jessicaelgot/status/931159275275214848 …

No - talking down a program that is supported by the majority of Britons is counter productive - besides beggars can’t be choosers.

It may end up being a good system, time will tell but around this time of year, it's hard for everyone so why hold back payments?

What’s so special about this time of year - Christmas isn’t a celebration of materialism. Perhaps a more penantent turn should be celebrated

I don’t disagree that the govt needs to sort this, but, people who start new jobs usually wait 4-6 weeks for their first pay cheque.

Here’s the problem politicians and civil servants make the rules but don’t live on benefits. Divorced from reality

There is a scheme where claimants can get an advance at very short notice. It should be brought to the attention of claimants.

The advance is a sticking plaster, because claimants will still lose six weeks worth of income out of a year. Most peple would struggle with that, not just UC claimants.

So as a carer to my wife, and having a six years old boy, I shall ease the pressure on the public purse, by going back to full time job and handing both over to the state! I wonder which is more expensive, but it's alright to treat us like second class citizens!
