    Events in Zimbabwe remind me of the old Foreign Office definition of a "functioning African country": one where the former president is not in prison or exile, and the fighting hasn't reached the capital yet.

        "Breadbasket" is the term. In Zimbabwe's case in white corn (maize) used mainly by people in that region to make a sticky mash called Sadza. (Yes it looks like mashed potato but a very different consistency)pic.twitter.com/7gRhaWpfM4

        Not if the military have their way. His children are no less greedy. A few years ago his daughter trekked around Europe trying to find a bank which would accept her suitcases of gold bullion.

        No major , parents working class, late Catholic Grandfather (father's side) left cork in 1890 and joined the BRITISH ARMY in ww1 and my late father rose through the ranks from Boy Seaman from GANGES 1930s to lt cmdr rtd 1966 & he served 35 years in RN including ww2
