They value teachers, pay them accordingly. It's not about selection. It's about values, priorities and the quality of teaching 2/

Their teachers are vastly better qualified than ours, with PhDs the norm. Vastly different society too. Many other explanations...

My point is that Grammar Schools is not the answer. I passed the 11 plus and went to such a school. That was a failed system then 1/

We tried to beat the next kid at a sport (now they promote mediocre). We were encouraged to do what we were good at. Discipline was taught.

How did those who were not considered bright enough to go to a Grammar School get on then in those days? 1/

That doesn't do it either. Fewer kids, proportionally, go to uni from grammar if poorer. The privilege continues right down.

It does it better than comps do. The state can't undo every failing in every home.

Is there evidence of more poor bright kids from Kent, Lincolnshire or Buckinghamshire going to Oxbridge?

No because all their grammar schools are in affluent areas.

So affluent areas have Grammars, and Secondary Moderns are in poorer areas. It's almost as if...
