She's right actually. My own state sixth form discouraged applications to top Russel group unis, instead those with good apply/offer ratio.

Thankfully I ignored it and got to UCL but getting more advice for kids about options, taking that risk with Uni choice is essential now.

There's been a fair amount of that pretty much since league tables became commonplace. (It may, to some extent, have pre-dated this).

When my eldest daughter went to state school -the kids ruled the classroom, the teacher was in despair.

-threatened by both unruly kids and their parents. I took my daughter out of that school into private education -she flourished

and went onto University, and works for a successfulo company in London. There are some excellent state schools, but many very poor ones too

Why, you think none applied? If you truly want a target group in your domain you go to them.

Need to know the success *rate* so need to know the denominator, and do some stats to see whether accurate. Gives a more useful measure
