Come the revolution, when I'm in charge, my Number One policy would be to build hundreds of thousands of *genuinely* affordable homes.https://twitter.com/juliahb1/status/914391502872342528 …

Is there *any* policy area where this May govt can get a single thing right? Everything comes too little, too late, reactive not proactive.

Plenty of affordable homes and jobs away from London, but too many are sucked into the London bubble, and believing stereotypes about regions

You'd need to sharply reduce net immigration too or the shortage would never end while urban sprawl would continually expand.

you can resolve the housing/people problem by 100,000 houses PA or cutting immigration by 200,000 PA. I know which I prefer.

Trouble with that idea is that it either re-creates East Berlin / the banlieus or it creates slums for a future generation to clear up.

A Conservative government should be getting the state out of the way of building thousands of desirable houses that people aspire to buy.

There is no reason why affordable homes have to be new build. Second hand homes vacated by people moving up the property ladder are as good.
