Cannot agree with JRM but he did good job separating his beliefs from secular law. He had no problem respecting everyones rights under law.

if she was raped it wasn't her choice to have sex

The implication is that the woman's choice of contraception was chastity. It is not her fault, but there are precautions before and after.
