I'm just curious how we are going to generate the power for the electric cars. With 2050 cap on CO2 to 80% below 1990 levels

Hydrogen. Most abundant, clean , only byproduct is water. And the technology already exists.
-
Been in development for about 30 years also, just price is the issue it seems.
-
As with all 'new' tech, once it's mainstream the cost will fall. Germany have bought trains that run exclusively of hydrogen power cells

IFS estimates that fuel duty generates around £28 billion per annum for the Treasury. Wonder what they'll replace that revenue with?

The only good electric car is a nuclear-powered one. Lithium batteries explode.

Obviously a 2040 ban is impossible. Battery tech, infrastructure and power supplies will not be in place. This is just posturing.

Existing power generation and distribution hopelessly inadequate for mass use of electric cars. Will need several more Hinkleys!

More to the point. How will National Grid cope, when people get home from work and plug their car in all at the same time?...

Putting the kettle on at half time during the World Cup will pale into insignificance.

Well I don't like it - they'll have to put sound effects on cars, F1 will be like old North Bank at Highbury, silent but deadly....
