All he did was repeat a statement put by another MP , But the media conveniently edited the question put to him

We made commitments, we are throwing our toys out the pram and leaving. It's our decision so we can't blame EU when they want their money
-
bullshit. There is no legal basis for that. Article 50 is a 2yr term - nothing about paying beyond that. EU's budget timeframe is irrelevant
-
Indeed by breaching Art50 and putting preconditions on discussions re the future relationship the EU gives us the right to leave immediately
-
Let's bear in mind that we're aiming for a free trade deal with these 27 countries. Even if legally we can stick 2 fingers up and run (1/2)
-
& the thing to offer for trade is trade - being blackmailed into paying them money we don't owe due to people panicking would be stupid
-
Plus it's poor who will pay disproportionately for it.
-
probably so, via spending restrictions. unless they throw in another indirect tax. A VAT cut would be a good post-Brexit move

Possibly. But we should pay what we've committed to under contracts and treaties. Might need an independent body to establish right amount.
-
Only pay if & when UK share of assets is properly established; I think EU may end up owing us!

#DianeAbbott ?Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Absolutely. There is no legal basis to the EU's demands... Unless they're giving us something in return such demands are just blackmail

Maybe these can help. http://bit.ly/2piHCXo

:) As an accountant that's precisely how I see it. Back it up - prove it, or you're not going to see any money

he’s a buffoon - this just antagonises the EU at a time where we need a good solution.
-
ffs - the 'keep them happy' approach with the EU has cost us dearly over the years. Someone makes a ridiculous demand, treat it as such
-
ffs - acting like children in a playground won’t get us or them anywhere - he is a buffoon and our Foreign Secretary.
-
Making such ridiculous & public demands in the 1st place merited a public & belittling response. Don't appease an extortionist
-
They aren't extorting anything just asking us to pay what we committed. We are the ones being ridiculous thinking we can walk away from it
-
BS where's the commitment... just because it sets a budget period. We will be paying in for the 2yrs under Art50 we have no other commitment
-
You can cry BS all you want, telling them to 'whistle' isn't a negotiating stance. It's a playground taunt by a populist buffoon
-
No legal basis. The demand is groundless. "whistle" is probably politer than telling them where to shove it Next.
