It's easy to use a buzzword isn't it.The preservation of our language is a Welsh issue.I don't know why the English get so colonial about it
-
Probably because the English pays the bills love.

Our national identity and culture is bound up with our language. You are attacking it by questioning why we should want more Welsh spoken.
-
Genuine question: Would you consider a Welsh-speaker to be more Welsh than someone born and bred in Ceredigion who only speaks English?
-
There isn't a level of Welsh. If you identify as Welsh then for me that's it, you are Welsh.
-
So what Jeremy said about Welsh national identity being bound up with the language isn't true?
-
My national identity is completely bound with my history and my language and I am acutely aware of its continued persecution. I don't 1/2
-
Feel the need to question cultural history and it's intrinsic links with identity. If that's not true for you then that's fine. 2/2
-
I totally get the history bit, but if you're saying that speaking the language doesn't make you any more or less Welsh, what's the point?
-
For me the language is completely intrinsically linked to my national identity. Policing others on how they identify is not my bag.

Did you know the vast majority of people who are today born & bred in South Wales are not ethnically Welsh.
-
Thank you Paul from Nottingham England for that comment which has no basis on whether or not these people will identify as Welsh or speak it
-
I'm not from Nottingham though :D, in fact, I've lived all over the place! A long line of Welsh & Cornish miners in my family

I speak Welsh fluently, and it's entirely pointless, no use for it but it's a nice thing to have. Welsh govt should spend money elsewhere

China has 500m people learning English. Wales has 300k learning Welsh. What a waste of good money.

Surely there are more important things to spend money on in Wales? Hospitals, industry, welfare just to name a few.

You obviously have no idea what it is to be Welsh, to inherit our culture, to be not English, to speak our own language in our own country.
