Question: If a Tory council puts combustible cladding on a tower block, they "don't care about poor people". What about the Labour councils?

HUGE DIFFERENCE. Tories were in power for 7 years and were consistently pestered to review fire safety and building regulations and didn't!

Agreed. But Labour also failed to tackle this issue. A plague in both their houses surely?

1/2 Not a huge difference at all. A government can't micromanage everything in the country but a council can manage this detail in its area

Not correct. Govt sets minimum standards and regulation, then councils are asked to provide best value (cheapest) within these limits.

The overarching thing in both circumstances is a culture of valuing money over the wellbeing of vulnerable people isn't It?

Question was 'did austerity cause the fire'. It would have been nice to hear someone who had considered that deeply.
