UK govts have for years had deliberate policy of training too few Brit doctors & nurses, instead importing from abroad to save training costhttps://twitter.com/juliahb1/status/863323657803837440 …

Here's a mad idea: why don't we allow all the Brits who want to be doctors & nurses to train as doctors & nurses and then hire them instead? https://twitter.com/open_britain/status/863319529614659584 …

Nearly 50% of those applying to train as nurses turned away because of lack of places and now ending nursing burseries. What does PM say?

.@JuliaHB1 @greycurmudgeon because it costs £70k to train a British nurse. That's why NHS relies on immigrant staff so much. All about money

Paying for agency nurses & locums costs the NHS a fortune and is unsettling for staff & patients.

.@helenhims @JuliaHB1 @greycurmudgeon no organisation in UK should employ non citizens unless they can prove the need. As in Canada etc.

We should train our own then make up the gap with immigration. But Govs not really interested in UK people...

It is unethical to steal drs and nurses from poorer countries. We MUST train our own. Bring back hospital trained staff.

How about we train them, provide loans and if they work in NHS for 10 years their loans are cleared, that would help NHS and nurses and docs

Spot on. I know bright keen people who want to train as doctors but there are no places at medical school. Insane.

People should watch the Channel 4's documentary series "Confessions of a Doctor" to see how the NHS doctors and nurses are struggling.
