Have you seen US articles about automation of low paid service jobs in burger & coffee shops when minimum wage was increased?

Spot on, John. It is already happening here, with McDonald's introducing electronic ordering via giant touch screens. Saves many staff.

We'll go the same way as Cali: investment in automation/computers will becomes a sensible step. Once the jobs go, they'll never come back!

True but in many areas it is a lifestyle choice. But as a safety net why is it only UK so many workers aren't paid enough to need it?

They should include a push for a 3 day weekend in their mandate, that'll get them some votes back.
