London Mayor Sadiq Khan just repeated the claim that 40,000 people die in UK each year from air pollution. This is complete & utter nonsense

All pollution includes having electric lights, fridges, TVs, cookers, heated homes, factories, you know, all the essentials of modern life.
-
So we can cut the 40,000 equivalent lives lost from air pollution down to zero - as long as we are happy to return to the Stone Age. Anyone?
-
Does anyone know the long-term effects of roasting mammoth steaks over an open fire in the confined space of a cave?

So we should accept illegal levels of pollution & all die younger? That makes sense...
-
nope. Pollution is going DOWN not up.
-
I agree advances are being made, but the faster diesel cars, the worst polluters, are phased out, the better. Would you not agree?

Er, that doesn't prove me wrong. That outdoor pollution simply includes car pollution.
-
*sigh* you said the the statistic covered "All pollution" it doesn't. Are you lying or just a bad reader?
-
readers may of course draw their own conclusions then

So more than 40,000 are dying prematurely due to all pollution, but only some of that larger number due to air pollution.
-
Unless 'some' is vanishingly small, that's still a large number, right?
