We didn't "sit" them, we recited them in front of the class for a gold star. Hugely motivational & we ALL learned them

In a state Infants & Junior School in the early 1960s we were doing this weekly, earning "stars". When did that stop, & why?

Have to agree on this one. Recall at Primary it was a badge of honour to master them. Kids would run to teacher to pass the test.
