      what you want (and I agree) is formative assessment, BUT government wants summative testing to hold teachers/schools to account.

      no, teachers assessing pupils happened for decades & resulted in high failure rates. Need indep assessment of pupils -not by teacher

          don't have an issue with independent testing at key times, what happens now is far too many tests so teaching is being limited

          too much high stakes testing means that teaching is ONLY about how to pass the test. Actual learning and understanding stops.

          nearly whole of yr 6 in some schools is devoted just to passing the end of KS2 tests. Nothing else.
