what you want (and I agree) is formative assessment, BUT government wants summative testing to hold teachers/schools to account.

the test is fixed point data on which teachers are judged. It's not really about the children. Assessment IS about the children.

children (and parents) shouldn't know when tests are happening. Should be a snapshot of what kids actually know/can do.

yes, I have a producer. Our relationship isn't remotely analogous with a teacher-pupil relationship.

clearly I don't know your set up though I do a lot of broadcasting with BBC so am familiar with studios.
