"I voted Leave to give sovereignty back to the UK parliament!" - So parliament should vote on Article 50? "No."
-

That was not what the law said. MPs deliberstely chose not to make ref binding. They did on Indy and AV refs. So their decision.
-
but the referendum result would have been regarded as legally binding if it had gone the "right" way.
-
Parliament is sovereign, not government pamphlets, thankfully.
-
except when there's a clear mandated manifesto pledge. Which this is.
-
MPs deliberately chose not to make EU referendum legally binding. So 'get over it' as some would say ;-)

It may go like this: Gov’t said it would act on the result. Parliament did not say it would act on the result.
-
Pretty much.

Parliament is not sovereign, the people are, as implicitly acknowledged by the EU referendum legislation.
-
Parliament is sovereign and you need to get over it.
-
YOU need to get over the fact that the people's will overrides parliament. There are more people than MPs.
-
What you're describing is an ochlocracy - mob rule. Thankfully we live in a democracy.
-
British have voted democratically to leave the EU. For Parliament to override that would be a coup d'etat.

We're not sure how to convince you that we live in a Parliamentary Democracy.pic.twitter.com/CE1UinnJST
-
Yes we do, and parliament passed law for EU membership to be decided by popular referendum. It's done.
