in essence, an endorsement. His next speech, less well known, more troubling. My take on Powell legacyhttp://www.britishfuture.org/articles/commentary/powell-more-prophet-than-politician/ …

Powell was meant 2B a very clever man who was just so stupid that he didn't see how quoting interpreted as condoning

you are as slippery as he was, oldest trick going " people are saying...." You know he favoured reconquest of India!
-
more bizarrely, given 1968 views, wrote to his parents saying he felt as Indian as Britishhttp://www.britishfuture.org/blog/powell-best-understand-as-part-of-our-history/ …
-
he probably meant Indian in an Imperial sense

this on his 100th birthday. Remarkably he felt as Indian as British (in 1940s); doubts I can feel British!http://www.britishfuture.org/blog/powell-best-understand-as-part-of-our-history/ …

They came out of his mouth as a warning. You are feeding a radiator narrative and should distance your self from it not cosy up to to it.

He's probably never read the whole speech

I disagree with JHB being disinvited over this. I have read & written much on this speech. Powell's argument for "national duty" of mass repatriation & near impossibility of integration is even clearer in his Eastbourne 16.11.1968 speech replying to critics of Birmingham speech
-
I am confident that no mainstream political voice in 2019 would today want to endorse the 3 specific passages & arguments I highlighted in this blog (from 2008), taken from Powell's Eastbourne reply to critics of his Birmingham "Rivers of Blood" speechhttps://www.opendemocracy.net/en/the-return-of-enoch/ …
