Anyone else agree with me that @DanielJHannan should run for @David_Cameron 's safe Witney seat...? Need more like Dan in Westminster.

No, Julia; I don't regard someone who counts Enoch Powell as a political hero is remotely suitable for public office in 21st C.

I don't agree with Dan on everything but he is hugely clever, principled, honest and would make a fine MP

Question of Enoch Powell's toxic effect on public life is a bit more than a detail, isn't it? Hannan cites him as political hero.

I'd also like some evidence that Hannan is "very clever". I found no sign of it in his recent book.pic.twitter.com/YzgN7tK3Tx

He can take it, Julia. He put his book into the public domain in order to elicit a response, and that was mine.

The only person to win Witney would be a Tory. Proves the case for PR. Let's get fairer elections.

no it doesn't. Even under PR, a Tory would win. What a bizarre argument!

Yes it is. I live in Mansfield and we've never had anything other than a Labour MP. FPTP is outdated, like the rotten boroughs.

You're saying it's because it's a by-election which is true but under PR General Election every vote would count. Not just some.

every vote counts anyway. Cameron has 60% majority in 2010 and 2015 so how would any form of PR deliver a different result?

Because it's a safe Tory seat. There would need to be a swing of over 40% which is extremely difficult. PR is fairer.

PR doesn't produce swings. No reason to believe those Tory voters would change their vote under PR

Go to utube and type Jeremy Hunt argues for PR on Question Time. Even he agrees. Safe seats are so wrong.
