ultimately I would like everyone to have an excellent education unrelated to their parents' situation

absolutely. But an excellent education for bright kids is different to an excellent education for average or below average kids

one problem with grammars is they make decision on kids' potential at a fixed time. Kids develop at different rates

Also, if 11 plus applied properly grammar schools would be gilts schools with a few boys

true, girls were under-represented for their 11+ scores.

I would love to see the levels of support for 'gender-blind' 11 plus selection for grammars.

why does it have to be gender blind? Why not select at different ages for boys and girls? Easy solutions.

Anyway, what is the evidence in favour of returning to selection?

why not streaming in all comps instead? Streaming allows kids to blossom at different ages (in different subjects)

cos streaming only works for brightest kids if you have enough for a whole class. Many comps don't. Mine didn't.

really? My comp had 220 in each year. Why not rank kids in order of ability in each subject & set classes that way?
