      @TheOtherMarx @hmatthews92 last mainland state joined in 1912. Only Hawaii and Alaska joined 1959. Hardly comparable to EU.

          @saswans @JuliaHB1 The territory was owned by Spain at one point. That's what I meant. It was a part of Mexico & Mexico was a colony.
