@JuliaHB1 @hmatthews92 erm... it's one country NOW - it wasn't always one country.

@TheOtherMarx@hmatthews92 neither was the UK, or Germany, or Italy. Yet we are now nation states with a clear identity. Your point is...? -
@JuliaHB1@hmatthews92 two points: 1 U.S. Is jointer of states, 2. You're very cranky for a Monday morning :) was it Jeremy article? -
@TheOtherMarx@hmatthews92 if you go back far enough, there were no nation states at all. So none exist. Bonkers. -
@JuliaHB1@hmatthews92 Yes,take your point,but like most things in life..it's a matter of degree,some states joined the Union quite recently -
@TheOtherMarx@hmatthews92 last mainland state joined in 1912. Only Hawaii and Alaska joined 1959. Hardly comparable to EU. -
@JuliaHB1@hmatthews92 Thanks for the research and confirmation. I appreciate it.

@JuliaHB1 do you think Alaska (for example) would be stronger outside the USA? -
@hmatthews92 I'm really not sure you understand the difference between a country and a region. -
@JuliaHB1 that's semantics. Will you answer the question with a yes/no please :) -
@hmatthews92 no, it's not semantics to point out basic facts. Of course Alaska is better off IN the USA. They are one country. EU is not. - 1 more reply

@JuliaHB1 It seems wrong to me that a foreign politician should involve themselves in another nation's democratic process in such a way - End of conversation

@JuliaHB1@hmatthews92 with those states equally as culturally diverse as any European nation. -
@NeilDance@hmatthews92 no, the cultural diversity in the USA is not remotely as vast as that between EU countries. -
@JuliaHB1@hmatthews92 it's markedly different, immigration has completely changed the culture.

@JuliaHB1 and it never started as 50 separate countries; with diff languages, cultures, laws etc etc.. US would never sign up to EU model -
@damianjbyrne@JuliaHB1 US is exactly what EU is becoming. States gradually joined Union. Texas was a foreign Country after its independence -
@Thomasgordon01@JuliaHB1 I think that's stretching it a bit
