Or that, at 28, he is looking to buy a rather nicer home in a rather nicer neighbourhood than most can afford at that age.

@JuliaHB1 Perhaps instead of focusing on his salary he should focus on the impact that house price inflation will have on our economy -
@LaurenceBarrett
@JuliaHB1 His constituency is in the north of England so plenty of properties available for someone on £70k plus a year... -
@Team_Davryl@JuliaHB1 But he is an MP...he needs something extra special! God knows he can't be expected to live like ordinary folk.

@JuliaHB1 not sure. Probably lumbered still with student debt & saving money at his parents probably the best option for now @Niconner -
@JoelTaylorhack indeed, but I have spoken to many young who say they can't afford to leave home. All go on foreign holidays & dine out etc -
@JuliaHB1 seems a bit harsh to tell all wannabe home owners that they can't go on holiday or dine out -
@joeltaylorhack@juliahb1 the difference is holidays and meals out are much cheaper than were for parents generation and houses aren’t. -
@AdamBienkov@JoelTaylorhack that is true, but I have spoken to dozens of young people who have no concept of deferred gratification. -
@juliahb1@joeltaylorhack average LDN first time deposit is £90k. You can go on holiday for a few hundred quid. Would take lifetime to save. -
@AdamBienkov@JoelTaylorhack but he's talking about buying a home in NW England, not London! -
@JuliaHB1@AdamBienkov there's been a huge increase in 20-34yr-olds living with parents, housing costs clearly a factor - 3 more replies

@JuliaHB1 Give we only know what an MP earns, is that judgement fair? Do we know (rather than assume) anything about his outgoings? -
@RupertLescott anyone who can't manage their finances on £70k probably shouldn't be earning £70k. -
@JuliaHB1 Again, I think we lack information to draw such conclusions. I like your style and agree with you 95% of the time. Just not now. -
@RupertLescott he managed to cope on a teacher's salary so now earning much more. How can't he afford a home? -
@JuliaHB1 Well that's what we would need to find out, after which we can draw all the conclusions we want but doing so beforehand jars a tad

@RobinWriteSmith true, but then not many people would want to be MPs in poor areas either...

@JuliaHB1 He's an MP who can live in London rent free. All expenses involving his job are also paid. Surely he can save a deposit.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
