Would you want a surgeon to operate on your child after a 52 hour shift? Me, on the doctors' strike, for @Telegraphhttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/nhs/12097206/We-are-driving-our-junior-doctors-to-sleepless-caffeinated-destruction.html …

@JuliaHB1@Telegraph Doesn't the new contract restrict working weeks to 72 hours rather than the current 91? -
@topfotogmw@Telegraph yes, but doctor says there is nothing to stop that being broken.Hospitals will still need doctors to work those hours -
@JuliaHB1@Telegraph Surely if their rota specifies more than this, they can refer it to their union? -
@topfotogmw@Telegraph yes but the reality is they would have to work those extra hours as no extra doctors being hired to do them -
@JuliaHB1@Telegraph It would be their manager's duty to cover the shortfall in hours, the doctors could not be sanctioned. -
@topfotogmw@Telegraph and where are we getting those doctors from and where is the money coming from to pay them? -
@JuliaHB1@Telegraph They can only strike about contract terms, not what may happen after they fulfil them. NHS managers have that duty!

@JuliaHB1@Telegraph Surgeons were not on strike ! Only junior doctors ! -
@Noahpetshop1@Telegraph he is a junior doctor and he is also a surgeon. You are confusing surgeon with consultant. -

@JuliaHB1: Perhaps if surgeon spent more time working within needy NHS instead of lucrative private practice he wouldn't have 2 work 52hrs! -
@ctgriffin1 he doesn't do private work
