Silly to talk about Labour "losing votes" in a by-election, particularly in December - turnout is much lower.
@stephenkb interesting that Oldham's turnout in May was lower than national average but turnout in this by-election on the high side..?

-
@JuliaHB1@stephenkb you're saying that Corbyn inspired more people to vote? -
@LinguaFrancis Sorry, thought I'd replied to you as well! Basically, not clear if it's high. If a Labour MP in a ultra-safe London seat... -
@LinguaFrancis ..could create a December by-election will know if it was a Corbyn effect or a "It's neck-and-neck" effect. -
@LinguaFrancis My guess: sadly lack of exit poll, etc means will only be a guess: turnout, fear of Ukip doing to area's rep what BNP did... -
@LinguaFrancis ...and media writing that it would be close probably the biggest factors (turnout goes up a bit when people think it close.) -
@stephenkb The UKIP/BNP reputation point is interesting - has implications for Farage's "North of England" strategy. -
@stephenkb The campaign was very much run on a local basis though. I've heard stories of offers of non-local help being turned down.
